Built in 1753, the museum has grown from strength to strength. It started with about 70,000 artifacts that comprised of mainly books, artwork and antiques. Over the years, with the help of scientist, explorers, archaeologists and wealthy collectors who bequeathed their collections to the museum, the museum now has around 15 million artifacts, all unique and fascinating in their own right.
